Accessibility Statement

Last reviewed: September 30, 2026

Global Crew Finder is for anyone who sails, or wants to. We want every member to be able to find a passage, apply, chat and stay safe at sea, whether they use a mouse, a keyboard, a touch screen, a screen reader or voice control. This page says plainly what works, what does not yet, and how to reach us.

What we aim for

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA. We are not there yet, so we say that the site partly conforms: much of it does, some of it does not, and the gaps are listed below. No outside body has audited the site. What we say here comes from our own automated checks and our own review.

What we support

  • Keyboard. You can reach and use the main screens with the keyboard alone: browsing passages, filtering, applying, messaging, the passage form and the dialogs. A visible ring shows where you are.
  • Screen readers. Buttons and links have names, form fields have labels, dialogs have titles, and errors are written out in words next to the field, not shown by colour alone. We run an automated accessibility check (axe) on the passage card, the applicant card, the filters, the dialogs, the welcome steps, the report form and every step of the passage form, as part of our test suite.
  • No dragging needed. You can put your boat and profile photos in order with buttons ("Move photo 2 earlier", "Set photo 3 as the cover photo"). The new place is read out, and focus stays on the button you used.
  • Focus stays in view. When you move through a page with the keyboard, or follow a link to a section, the page scrolls so that the header and the bottom bars do not cover what you have selected.
  • Touch. The newest buttons (for example the ones on photos) are at least 32 pixels square, above the 24 pixel minimum in the guidelines.
  • Your settings. Text can be enlarged with the browser, and there is a light and a dark theme.
  • Plain language. We write in plain English and explain what happens to your details where we ask for them.

What still needs work

  • Maps. The interactive maps cannot be fully used with a keyboard or a screen reader. Every passage on a map is also in the list beside it, with the same details.
  • Colour contrast. We have not measured contrast on every screen, in both themes. Some grey text on tinted backgrounds may be hard to read.
  • Content written by members. Photos of boats and people may have no description, and boat guides uploaded as PDF files may not be readable by a screen reader. The text of a boat guide that is typed into the site is.
  • Screens we have not checked. The automated checks cover the screens listed above. Other pages, and the pages our team uses to run the site, have not been tested the same way.
  • Real assistive technology. We have tested with the automated engine and by hand, but not yet with a range of screen readers and voice control tools on real devices.

Tell us about a problem

If something on the site does not work for you, or you need information in another form, write to admin@globalcrewfinder.com. Tell us the page, what you were trying to do and what you use to browse. We aim to answer within five working days and to fix what stops you using the site first.

If our answer does not help, you can complain to the authority in your country that looks after accessibility. We will tell you which one if you ask.
